The Adventure Awaits - Take Your Child To The Library Day

- Saturday, February 1, 2025, 10:00 am - 1 pm

  • "Where's Spot" by Eric Hill will be presented in multiple languages: English, Spanish, French, Irish Gaelic, and Sign Language.

  • Children will receive a passport and embark on a scavenger hunt throughout the library to explore various countries and cultures.

  • Passports will be stamped at each station, and prizes will be given once a passport has the necessary number of stamps!

  • This is a family event - all ages welcome!

TIMETABLE:

  • 9:30 am - Guest Readers Arrive and prepare - they will be reading in the community room.  We will have a microphone and speaker set up for the readers.

  • 10:00 - 10:30  am - Families arrive (refreshments in the community room)

  • 10:30 - 11:30 am Stories read in 6 different languages by guest readers: French (Kate Beever - French speaker), Irish Gaelic (Martin Ryan - From Ireland), Chinese - (Shuai Luo - From China) , Spanish - (Zoe Manasterli – Spanish speaker), English (Sharon Beever)  and American Sign Language (Nancy Grose - (Teacher of the Deaf. Massabesic High School).

  • 11:30 - 1:00 pm - Scavenger Hunt for children. Families will receive a clipboard with a checklist, a passport, and a pencil. They will walk around the library to find books displayed about different countries that will each have a sign that says how to say "Hello or Goodbye" in whatever language is spoken in that country. They have to answer the questions on the checklist (for example: "How do you say hello in French?" or "What is the Title of one of the books about France that is on display?"  Once they have filled in the answer, they will get a stamp on their passport. At the end of the scavenger hunt, if they have received all of the required stamps, they will earn some prizes.
